What post production decisions decisions can you see they have used?/What impact have these decisions had on the final product?
A Black and White Filter has been used, it was a good decision because it helps fit the audiences view on the conventions of the music genre. The impact it has is because it follows conventions even though the audience expect this which is also what they'd want to see, if it was anything other it wouldn't appear as successful. We feel that cutting the music on a beat change worked really well on this music video because they're smooth and subtle transitions which fit with the music style. Also we think that the animation was placed in the right places. The visuals would match the lyrics. Which being one of Goodwin's points is rather important as it makes the song's lyrics more emotional and appear meaningful towards the audience viewing it.
Which post production skills do the group need to develop?
They have used several shot types used in this music video which work really well, however more cuts are needed, as music videos genuinely have around 130 cut's.
Which post production skills have they used more effectively than you have?
The animation within the music video we believe is amazing. we can only compare this too our i-stop motion parts in our music video. However we just used photograph's, where as U1-45 clearly done this in a far more time consuming and creative way. We also used black and white, but this was only for the I-Stop motion, we deicided this becuase we wanted to represent a 'flashback' and separate it from the rest of the music video's narrative. If our video was all in black and white we dont think it would have been as successful to our genre becuase we wanted a everyday feeling to it and also the flash backs would not be differenciated to the rest of the video.
Look at the group ancillary products, what could they add or improve?
Our opinion on the ancillary tasks are that they do fit the conventions of the genre well, the black and white idea really works well. Using stills from their music video also helps promote their image and gives the audience an idea of what to expect. However one thing we did notice was the continuity of images and font style. We noticed that the poster has a different font for 'Vincent, Vincent and the Villains' to the DVD Cover. Both fonts appear to fit the genre, however we believe it should have been one or the other. Also we think there are too many fonts in total. Maybe one for the name and one style for everything else, with quotes in the same font but maybe in italics. Also consider position of the fonts.

Post Production Concept 5 Section 1A
1. What post production decisions can you see they have used?
2. What impact have these decsisions had on the final product?
The impact on adding all of the post production effects in terms of transitions and the split screens that were used and the editing is that it helps to make the music video look more professional and look of better quality. The editing helps to seperate the shots that they have used and make the video more clarable for the audience.
3. Which post production skills do the group need to develop?
The group need to develop how to add credits and other texts to there project. They also need to illustrate Goodwins Points more and show and this could have been done by using better visuals to lyrics and visuals to beat.
4. Which Post Production skills have they used more effectively than you have?re
In all fairness this group had not used post production skills better than us. In our group we had much better editing to change the locations and added in visual effects in the sense of filters and also texts to match goodwins points of visuals to lyrics. The production would have been better though.
5. Look at the groups ancillary products - what could they add to improve?
Cant find any
- Split screen
- quadruple split screen
- transitions - peel
- slow motion
- reverse shots
- editing - cuts etc

Evaluation of group U1-44's mucis video
What production decisions can you see they have used?
What impact have these decisions had on the final product?
- They have decided to use split screens as a main editing technique that acts as a motif throughout the video making it look more fun and interesting, holing the audiences attention.
- They used alot of hand held shots that made the video feel relaxed and light-hearted. It makes the band appear more relateable, making the audience feel like they are more involved in the video.
- They used slow motion at the end of the music video to make it more interesting and help with the overall flow of the video, making the pace progress and then decrease, resulting in the product feeling more professional.
- They have used jump cuts throughout the whole music video which has added to the upbeat tune and
Which post production skills have they used more effectively then you have?
They have used the split screen technique better than we did and our product. we also they're stronger through out as they had a better quality camera and more close ups.
Look at the groups ancillary task and see what they could they add to improve?
U50 post production evaluation
1) What post production decisions can you see they have used?
- split screens- appear near then end
- during split screens- mirrored effect
- kaleidoscope effect near then end
- word on appearing on screen
- use of shot decisions- lots of location
- fades/transitions from cuts
- split screen/mirror/kaleidoscope- This decision did not fit the genre convention but it works/looks good and interesting. Adds something visually interesting and different for the audience.
- variety of shot types-most are mid shot
- framing of shots-central
- could have developed the effects more throughout the video (more regularly) as most appear towards the end of the video.
- they used split screens with the addition of another special effect-mirror-this means that they were more effective in creating a different looking video. Split screens add interest but with the addition of the other effect, this then increases the effectiveness of the split screens.
- Digipack- the effect on the cover of the digipack looks very good and interesting. It does fit with the video, the colours reminded us of the kaleidoscope effect in the video. To improve they could have made the back cover more eye catching as compared to the front it does look a bit dull, they could have solved this by just adding more colour to the back.
- Magazine advert- The advert fits with the genre of the music video but we didn't think that we would link the advert to the DVD. To improve the advert they could have linked it their digi cover as they are not obviously connected, they could have used the same font or colours.

1. The post production decisions that have been used are effects, editing, sound track. The effects they used were green screen and colour corrector to add a visual effect that is pleasing to the eye and unique. They also used different editing techniques. These were mainly jump cuts as these looked most effective to fit with the music genre. Finally, they had a music sound track in the background that the video was based around.
2. These decisions had a positive effect on the final product. It helped to give it a cutting edge and make it look a neater project. This helped the product to be more successful and fit in with the genre.
3. The post production skills that need to be developed are the ancillary texts. I feel these are weak and could be improved. We feel that they are too basic and should include more. They could be more relevant to the genre and could also be of a higher quality that would fit in with the music market.
4. I believe that they have used the effects post production skill better than us. This could be because their song choice was more relevant to the effects on offer but even so, they maximize this opportunity and used it to great effect!
5. I feel that they could improve the ancillary texts by adding more to them and using photoshop to a greater extent and using all that it has to offer.

What post production decisions can you see they have used?
In this video we can see the use of black and white filter and fading transitions. There was also the use of freeze frames showing pictures of the singer and her boyfriend. This gives the video a better sense of narrative as it presents a story alongside the main aim of the video of selling the artist. It also makes the scene
What impact have their decisions had on the final product?
The black and white creates a dreamy feel which corresponds with the songs genre. The still images create a montage effect, which gives a sense that time has pasted and that the character is reflecting on her relationship. This is the same effect that the black and white filter gives. The black and white filter also makes the audience feel relaxed and calm this replicates the mood of the song.
Which post production skills do the group need to develop?
There could be some more interesting graphics/alternative narrative alongside.
Which post production skills have they used more effectively than you here?
They have been a little more tasteful with their use of post production skills as the nature of their song suited a simpler, more artistic video. We used a lot of effects which made the video a lot more confusing. However, this is the effect we were going for.
Look at the groups ancillary products - what could they add or improve
The ancillary products reflect the video well, the black and white minimalist approach works well.
There is also a good correlation between each of the ancillary products which has come out nicely. Each product sticks to the simple/minimalist feel which gives it a good overall theme.

Is Nicki Minaj's video 'Super Bass' creative?
Yes
The video takes influences from other artists such as BEP (I Got a Feeling) and Aqua (Barbie Girl).
She twists standard features, such as making the motorbike out of ice. The colours and other cartoony features reflect the specific artist as an individual.
No
The video is fairly standard for a modern hip hop female video in that she is shown in a sexual way with male extras. The outfits are also provocative, and she is shown on a motorbike, which is a male fantasy.

Creative or not?
Creative argument:
It is creative because there haven't been any music videos similar to this. What makes it different to the other 'leaving earth' kind of medias is that this portrays living in space and leaving earth as something good and exciting. The thought of living "on the sun" is more enticing that earth.
Not creative:
The whole look of the video is similar to many films about 'abandoned' earth. It also uses clips that are associated with the moon landing- the space shuttle and station, which in themselves make the video not very creative as mos of the ideas have come from other medias or events. Owl City restricts his creativity by making his videos more different each time and even more creative, this means that each video has to have more interesting ideas each time.
Creative video
The video which we think is creative is the new bruno mars song called The Lazy Song and the reason why we think this song is creative may sound a bit controversal but because it was done all by the same shot angle it makes it creative/innovative. Another thing that is creative about the video is how the dancers all have monkey mask's on with sunglasses and this is very creative and because they are all doing the same dance moves it makes it even more creative

Bullet Point script
- We used blogger for all of our projects over the 2 years - In the first year, we were putting all our ideas on to Blogger, but in the second year we used it purely as a place to out our final ideas, and so it was much shorter.
- We used digital cameras to show locations and our progress. Iphoto was helpful because we could upload the photos to the Macs, we have used this technique throughout all our products.
- Final Cut was more vital to us in the more recent projects as we used it to edit our footage. However in the Children's Film we only used it to order our IStop Motion clips, we were able to experiment with more with real time footage in our thriller. We used these new skills in our music videos, such as split screens.
- We used Google to help with our research into thrillers and music videos, we really did not research into children's films as we went straight from analysing real products into creating our own. Google was a fast, easy way to research.
- In our final product we used Photoshop to create our ancillary tasks. We learnt alot of new skills while doing these tasks, as we experimented with alot of the tools!
- Youtube was one of our main research components, espeshally for our music video, for our year one products we focused mainly on films for our research whereas with our music video we used full use of Youtube's variety of videos.
- we upgraded our footage from our first year by using a HD camera for our music video. This also gave us the chance to combine both standard quality footage with HD footage.
2 years ago we were eager media students, now we're media pros. in our first media production (the childrens film), we didnt use real live action, we used istopmotion which was hard to use at first but once we got into the swing of thing it was relatively easy. to get inspiration we watch children film opening on youtube and research ideas on the internet. We type and recorded all of our ideas on blogger. We also used garage band to make a sound track the fit with the theme of our media product. Once we had our footage, we put it all together on final cut and edited it on finalcut. We were please with the end out come of our childrens film and ended up with B's. The next media product we created was a thriller opening. This time we decided to use live action and we used people who were and weren't in our media group so that we could all have a go at filming to widen our skills. We used the internet and youtube to get ideas of what to do for the opening, and after watch many opening we decided to follow the conventions. we filmed our film beginning and then edited in on finalcut, instead of using garage band to create a soundtrack we used the sounds that were on finalcut. this time we used many more editing skills than the childrens film.

How Has your use of Digital Technology advanced over the 2 years and how has this improved the result of your products?
In the first year we focused more on the garage band software whilst this year we have focused more on final Cut express. From using garage band last year our knowledge of the software was enhanced which made it easier to use this year and when we did use it this year it was quicker because we had experience using the software.
Additionally within our first we used photoshop to get us use to the technology, however we used it more this year in the making off our album covers and magazines articles for our music video projects. This year, we learnt how to use more complicated effects which got us better marks.
Throughout the two years we have frequently used Final Cutt express. We have used this program to edit all off our projects and to add effects such a fades and colour filters . Last year we could only use very basic effects such as fades but this year due to our enhanced knowledge we could effects such as split screens.
Eye Stop Motion was used in small doses due to our group mainly using cameras and final cut express. However we used eye stop in our first project the children's film.
Throughout the two years we have used blogger frequently due to each group have to blog each piece of work and analysis. Furthermore all off the revision notes that we use have been put on the blog.
The internet was used mostly for the research aspect of the projects, especially in the music video when we had to find out what other videos where like in the genre we had chose. Additionally the internet let us use such websites as Facebook and youtube. `we used facebook to connect to the artist and ask them if we can use the song in our media project. Additionally we got ideas for our products from Youtube, for example for our music video we analyzed other hip hop music videos from youtube and used the ideas that we found to help us with our video. The internet had a massive influence on the amount of research.
Google was the main search engine used throught the two years, it was useful if we didn't no something and wanted to search it and 9 times out of 10 it would come up with what we searched for.

Over the years digital technology has advanced a lot.
With some digital technology becoming older it has caused the value to decrease which has made it easily affordable and accessible for us.
Last year in year 12 we had old basic cameras that had a low resolution which caused the picture to be of a lower quality and we had to film our children's film, thriller project with these cameras which made them look worse because of the low quality.
This has allowed new digital technology to be used like high definition cameras which we have used in year 13. This has improved the results in our projects because they are obviously better quality which has made our music video look better.
In year 12 we were first introduced to new software like final cut express and we were not trained to use this software very well so we only used basic performances on it as we were confused about how to make the full use of it.
Now in year 13 we have had a lot of experience with the software and we have been taught how to use its best features so we can now make very good videos because we can edit very good due to being taught how to add effects, edit more fluently, use more professional cutting by using fade in's and out's.
Another software on the computers we were first introduced to was Photoshop. At a first look of this software it looks very detailed, hard to use and confusing and in the first year we did not get taught about it.
In the second year we had to make ancillary tasks for our music video and in this we had to use photoshop to make a dvd cover and magazine article which when using photoshop helped us learn a lot more about the software itself and allowed us to make detailed ancillary tasks that were very effective in attracting the audience.
In the first year we learnt how to use I Stop Motion which is an animation program where you can take still shots and make them look like a video in order to make motionless things gain motion. In the first year we learnt how to do this very well.
We also learnt more about youtube and this allowed us to watch videos and use them as templates for our childrens film, thriller project and music video because the website allowed us to watch similar examples of what we wanted to make which helped us when making these videos.
The last thing that was new to us was online blogging and this enabled us to store information online and this was easy to learn as we went on a website called blogger.com, which is free to sign up and in year 13 it has been vital in making notes for our exam which shows how blogger has been important in a new digital technology we have started to use.

How has your use of digital technology advanced over the 2 years and how has this improved the result of your products?
Camera
photoshop
Final cut express
Garageband
Firefox- Youtube, google, flickr, blogger, myspace
There is a wide range of different digital technologies that we had at our disposal, over the past two years to help us create our products. And over those two years our skills in them have improved and developed allowing us to make much better final products.
For example the new cameras were much easier to use as the new setting allowed us to see all our clips as thumbnails on the camera screen, which meant that we could easily view all the clips that we had while filming. This caused a lot less stress when editing as we didn't have to cut one long clip up like you would with the old tape cameras.
Final cut express, In the first year our use and knowledge of this program was quite basic, we would just use simple techniques like fades and maybe the occasional filter. For example my children's film didn't have any visual effects or filters, except for the very minimal use of slow motion. After more experience on final cut, we were able to pull off more impressive effects and just generally make the video look smoother. For example we used a green screen in our music video which we were then able to put samples of Rusko's video behind our clips.
We used a whole variety of different popular website such as, Firefox....Youtube.....Google.....Flickr.....Myspace....Blogger and more. All of these websites helped us improve our product in different ways. For example websites like Google and Youtube helped us research for our product, by finding out information on certain subjects and we would watch relative videos on youtube, for example music videos of the same genre.
We used Photoshop for things like magazine adverts and posters, photoshop has a very steep learning curve so by this year everybody was getting much better at using it then when we first started. A technique which was specifically useful in creating our products was the magnetic lasso tool, this allowed us to cut of pictures of ourselves your anything else that we needed and layer on top of another background.

We used many different technologies in the production of our media products. Despite being the eager beavers that we were, we still needed the latest technology to help produce top rate media products. Thanks to these technologies and our committed attitudes we are now media pros. I- stop motion allowed us to use animation where appropriate and was very effective. However, this was time consuming and took a lot of perseverance. As well as this, we used final cut to edit our production. This was great as it had loads of different modes and techniques that we could use to make our products look even more effective. For example, using black and white and slow motion. To produce our work it was essential we had an Apple mac to produce our work on. This is because it is the only company that have certain software which was vital for us to have. Blogger- we used blogger throughout the past two years in all media work we completed. Blogger was perfect for getting notes and ideas down so we could join together and discuss these ideas and plans. Blogger helped show all the stages of planning, filming, editing, software used etc throughout our prodjects. Blogger help us throughout the course as it allowed the group to plan and discuss our ideas and put them down so we could go back and review and maybe decide on adding or deleteing an idea from our project. Facebook - we only used facebook during our music video project. We used it to contact the band whose song we used for our music video (vincent, vincent and the villains). We found their official facebook page and posted a comment to them to explain we were planning a music video project based on their song. We also had to use google on many occasions. This was vital for searching information and finding pictures that would help us produce successful media projects. We used this over other search engines as we believe this to be the best as it has the most information. Bing is poor. we used youtube in a number of different tasks. On youtube the main aim was to analyse others videos and understand what was good and what was not so good and try to apply these into our videos. we searched from official films, music videos to long road students projects. this gave us an understading of the different projects and also gave us inspiration throughout the tasks. we found youtube a very useful tool for the media projects. We were also fortunate enough to use HD cameras in our second year of filming. This meant that the picture quality was of a much higher standard and therefore was more pleasurable to the eye. Flickr was used in our projects so we could upload pictures onto blogger. this helped us show some of the ideas we were looking to use, also we took pictures of us editing, filming, planning, working etc. these were all uploaded via flickr onto our blog. without flickr we would not have been able to use pictures on our blogs as a form of planning and ideas.

Q. Has using conventions from real media texts in your work enhanced or impeded your creativity?
. Could have impeded due to not wanting to go against the stereotype that is expected from certain genres.
. Could have enhanced as it gives you a platform to work on and then you can add your own creativity with that.
. Enhanced as you can see what is expected and what has been successful for other videos of the same genre.
. Enhanced when filming for the thriller as we knew what people wanted.
. Through using media texts we were able to look at what we used in similar videos in comparison to the mise en scene and voyeurism. As well as this, we were able to go against the conventions at the same time by putting in animation. By being able to use media conventions we could see what was effective and what wasn't.
. We were able to match visuals to lyrics as we saw this done through other songs of a similar genre (Beatles). This meant that our video had more of a cutting edge and looked much more effective thanks to being able to see other media projects.

Using conventions- Example question
Has using conventions from real media texts in your work enhanced or impeded your creativity?
Music Video
-Goodwin's points were useful as an outline to help us with our product;
- Voyerism: using lots of close ups
- selling the artist- classy with apperance and mis en scene, and content
- music and visuals- editing changed on beat
- lyrics and visuals- we didn't follow
- genre- stuck to it with minimal locations etc
- Intertextuality- didn't do that in the sense of advertising products, however, we did get influenced by other video's in the genre such as Leona Lewis, Rihanna and Alicia Keys.
Although Goodwin's points were useful we decided at times to put our own 'spin' on it to make it slightly less conventional. In addition to this as we had a target audience we had to include conventional ideas. Because of this our creativity wasn't impeded as we still had a broad selection of ideas and possibilities within each of Goodwin's points. We were also given a lot more time to work of our planning and filming of our video which enhanced our creativity.
Thriller
We went against conventions as we wanted the audience to think about the storyline more. Unlike the children's film we were given a choice with the location. In addition to this we were given more time to film.
Children's film- we followed conventions because that was a target audience that you can't really change because of the age group and certificate. In addition to this, as this was our first project we weren't allowed to experiment with location, we had to film within school grounds. Also, we were only given one lesson to film the whole of the opening which meant that we were impeded with our ideas.

Question on conventions
Using conventions which in this case is creativity and digital technology has enhanced our work greatly because it has allowed us to be able to use new high technological equipment and programs like final cut express which has enabled us to precisely edit our video to our liking. This is shown in real media texts across the world and makes them look professional like they are and in our video we have done this very well however trying to be too creative did hold us back as we tried to make a music video which was too hard to make with the apparatus and budget which we had which caused us to lose valuable time of filming and forced us to rush the new making of our music video. But overall the use of digital technology enabled us to enhance more than be impeded by our creativity problems.
Exam question
Has using conventions from real media texts in your work enhanced or impeded your creativity?
Voyeurism- Our video is quite voyeuristic as it has people dancing away, this complies with the genre of the music (club/electro) as audiences will expect this from the genre. Although conventionally the video should be voyeuristic, we didn't feel like are creativity was impeded in any way as the ideas that we had were naturally quite voyeuristic.
Lyrics/visuals- There are no lyrics in this song.
Music/visuals- Through most of the song we made the edits cut to the beat as this emphasizes both the music and what is going on in the video. Again this is conventional of this genre but yet again we didn't feel impeded by this as it made the video look so much better.

Questions on using conventions
Has using conventions from real media texts in your work enhanced or impeded your creativity?
Since having to use conventions from real media texts in our work we feel that it has enhanced our creativity as our different projects in media have gone on.
The first video that we created was a kids film beginning, the brief was that we had to think of a two minute entry to a kids film.
If you compare this video to our most recent media product, you will see that we have enhanced our style in production. One of the reasons the kids film wasn't as enhanced was because we were limited as we had to produce it and follow guidelines we were given, whereas for our most recent music video we were able to research and choose for ourselves how we make it, and had the flexibility to challenge conventions.
An example of this is that we have made the kids film very simple for little kids to understand.
But in the music video we have introduced a whole different theme, such as technological changes with the editing and visuals.
In between the other two media products we mentioned, we also made a thriller opening media product.

Using Conventions.
Has using conventions from real media texts in your work enhanced or impeded your creativity?
Through using convetions of real media texts has enhanced our work through giving us a guide line on what to include in our media product. For example Goodwins Points. These points are, Voyerism, Lyrics / visuals, music / visuals, selling the artist, intertextuality and Genre. We looked at other videos to get ideas for our video and i feel this enhanced our video as we can could get ideas of what that genre of video is all about.

Conventions question
Music video- Goodwin's Point
Conventions- gave us a starting block, by sticking to some it helped create the video and reign in our ideas+ gave us focus. This gave us the ability to oppose the conventions as we felt it would give our video more of the look we were after.
Impeded
Convention- we felt that we needed to follow some of the conventions, i.e. band=focus in video, and that this restricted our creativity. For example, personally, we would have been content to make an animation, however the conventions of the 'indie' video meant that we were pressured to feature a real band.
- voyeurism- watching them through hand held, part of their life/behind the scene of celebrities, we feel like part of the group enhanced
- lyrics/visuals- not linked at all but whether that is conventional is under debate
- music/visuals- edit to the beat enhance, chorus- footage v. different to the rest of the video but similar in all choruses
- Selling the artist- the band is the main feature throughout- hand held especially, lead singer identified through close ups- follow conventions of most music videos impeded
- Intertexuality- Wii games- Mario cart, Taylor Swift inspiration, charades
- Genre- Indie style, low key/budget-house + garden, would not have famous people in video impeded
